The first Wildings with St. Edward’s Crown watermark were issued in September 1955, and some rolls containing these stamps were issued in the same month. The full set of 27 rolls were produced, although roll (U) was changed from 2½d to 3d, and initially no (B) rolls were produced as 1951 changes in postal rates had reduced the demand and there was sufficient stock of earlier rolls, which lasted until March 1958.
The minimum Inland Letter Rate increased from 2½d to 3d in Oct 1957, resulting in 3d rolls (CS) being changed to continuous printing, and the change of roll (U) from 2½d to 3d.
The 2d stamp changed from red-brown to light red-brown in 1956 affecting rolls (QRTV) and the 6d stamp changed from reddish-purple to deep claret in 1958 affecting roll (J).
