The first Wildings with Multiple Crowns watermark were issued in October 1958, and rolls containing these stamps were issued soon afterwards starting with (S) in October and (V) in November. The full set of rolls were produced, minus roll (K) which had been discontinued before the introduction of the this watermark. Rolls (AC) and (AD) were added in Apr 1960 to provide smaller rolls than the (U) rolls for 3d vending machines.
Stamps printed on whiter paper were introduced in 1962. This was primarily a result of filtering the brackish water used at the paper mill near Dartmoor, but also because of whitening agents used in the paper pulp (from detergents in rag, and directly added). The resulting change from cream to whiter paper was gradual, and it is sometimes difficult to tell one from the other. Depending on the water quality, whiter paper can be found during the cream period, and vice versa.
